I tried Gwynnie Bee for 30 days
Before we launch into Gwynnie Bee-land, I just wanted to let you know that this post is not sponsored.
Here are some statements that all apply to me:
I am plus size.
I'm an apple shape.
I have tooth pick legs.
I'm picky when it comes to my clothes.
I'm also picky when it comes to clothing fabrics.
I don't like to spend an enormous amount of money on clothing.
I have little patience to dig to find clothes I like.
Enter Gwynnie Bee.
Gwynnie Bee is a plus size clothing subscription service made for people like me. You sign up and choose how many pieces you want out at a time. Peruse their clothing selection and select the pieces you want to borrow and in 3-4 days, they arrive at your doorstep. You can either keep them for a determined price that is shown in your profile or you put them back in the prepaid return envelope that is included in your original shipment.
Here's a little more info:
They cater to sizes 10-32.
Their prices are as follows:
1 out-at-a-time $49/month
2 out-at-a-time $69/month
3 out-at-a-time $95/month
5 out-at-a-time $130/month
7 out-at-a-time $179/month
10 out-at-a-time $199/month
P.S. I selected the two out at a time subscription.
Once you've signed up, you have to choose a handful of articles of clothing in what size you wear to begin. Gwynnie Bee will pick the amount you've selected to borrow at a time out of what you've chosen.
And you don't get to pick what you get specifically, though you can prioritize what you'd like first. Here's what that looked like when I started selecting clothing to borrow:
In my first shipment, I received a Faux Leather Pleated Skirt In Black by Ellerman and a blue sailor inspired dress by Eloquii. I selected a 2XL for both.
And while I adored this Eloquii dress...
The pleather skirt was about two sizes too big. That's when I learned the importance of utilizing the review feature on the site. There is a rating next to each item where you can click to read other users reviews. They'll tell you what they liked, what they didn't and if it will require you to pin it to stop it from sliding down your hips (like I had to do).
Next box I received a Melissa McCarthey Seven7 Patched Cargo Jacket and a Leota Circle Dress In Windowpane Jacquard. I selected a size 16 for the dress and a 2XL for the jacket.
And I loved both!
My third and final box of the month long experiment included a Rachel Roy Tuxedo Cape and an Unique Vintage Polka Dot Swing Dress. I selected a 2XL for the cape and a size 16 for the dress.
Aaaand this experience helped me learn that I don't look good in capes. No matter how hard I try.
I also didn't try on the Unique Vintage dress because it smelled strongly of cleaning agents. Almost like it spent too long at the dry cleaners or something. I figured it was a one way ticket to skin irritation town.
And there you have it.
I really tried to get one box a week but with the Thanksgiving holiday towards the end of the month, it ended up being three.
The last thing I want to mention is that I was really impressed with how frequently they added new items. They must have added new items to their selections twice in one month. If you notice, the dress by Leota dress wasn't in my original selections because they added it midway through the month.
I plan to continue using this service because I think it has a lot of value. I will just be sure to read the comments on each piece going forward so I don't have to end up walking around with two inches of skirt pinned together again.
Let me know if you have tried or plan to try Gwynnie Bee. I'd like to know what you think!
