Why faux fur is for everyone
I've only been living on the plus size side of life for the past couple years. That was before I started steroids for an autoimmune illness I was diagnosed with in 2011. Prior to that I typically wore a size 8/10. I'm currently a size 14/16.
As a relatively new member of the community, I had a lot of preconceived notions about what I could wear and what I couldn't. But I'm slowly learning that being plus size shouldn't be limiting in terms of what we can wear. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it is because it takes some work to find cute plus size clothing. A lot of designers seem to think that we want to wear potato sacks or shapeless, structureless clothing that has no business hanging on sales racks attached to their overpriced price tags.
Anyway, here's the thing — I love faux fur. I love the look of it, the feel of it and the way it makes me feel while I'm wearing it. I feel like some fancy socialite having a leisurely brunch in the upper west side and then shopping at Bergdorf Goodman on 5th ave while I'm wearing faux fur.
But because I'm now rocking a larger cup size, I've been worried that faux fur would make me look like a fashionable abominable snowman or something. That's when I realized that it doesn't matter what size you are, if something makes you feel special, you should at least give it a shot.
So when I got this bomb faux fur stole in my first StitchFix box, I was like, 'fuck me up, fam' and decided to keep it. I paired it with a black turtleneck from Kohls, Vera Wang pleather leggings and a pair of black ankle combat boots. I think it turned out to be a pretty street chic look.
Lesson learned: faux fur is for everyone, even if you have large chesticles.
