11 lazy girl tips for looking put together
There’s two different types of women in this world. There’s the kind that sacrifice precious shut eye to put actual effort into looking polished in the morning and then there’s the kind that hit the snooze button seven times while accepting their fate of looking like they just rolled out a trash can. I’m in the latter category.
Exhibit A: a lazy girl in her natural habitat
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love sleep. I am close personal friends with my snooze button. I even have a degree in what I like to call morning math (IE: if I get up in 15 minutes, I’ll have 45 minutes before I have to leave the house). But that doesn’t mean I don’t long to be one of those lovely, put together women in my office.
Admittedly, I’ve spent years rolling into work looking well rested, albeit sloppy. And up until recently, I had accepted my fate as a lazy girl until I realized there are a few quick things I could do to look slightly more polished in the morning.
So, without further ado, here are 11 tips into tricking people into thinking you aren’t a lazy, trash woman like me.
1. Invest in a clothing steamer
This is the only tip that involves in purchasing something, so hold tight for a sec because it’s totally worth it.
A one-way ticket to sloppy-town is achieved by wearing wrinkled clothing. For years and years, I’d just go with it, assuming the wrinkles would work themselves out as the day went on. But that changed when I learned that a quick steam will help you look instantly more put together. And you don’t need to spend beaucoup bucks for this either. You can get a decent steamer on Amazon for around thirty bucks like this one. Plus, this is something you can do the night before, so it won’t interrupt your snooze button tango in the morning.
2. Cuff your skinny jeans
I know skinny jeans are not everyone’s cup of tea but for those of you who enjoy them, I got two words for you: cuff ‘em. Ok, maybe I should have phrased that differently because I’m suddenly getting 50 shades of whatever vibes. What I mean is: cuff your pant legs. It’ll instantly add a little punch to your ensemble.
If you've never cuffed your jeans before, check out this sweet tutorial over at StitchFix.
3. Put a blazer on it
A nice blazer in a neutral color should be a part of everyone’s wardrobe because it’s a great way to dress up an otherwise casual outfit. For example, you might be inclined to throw a cardigan over a tshirt and jeans look, but if you go with a blazer instead, you’ll look a lot more polished. I have one from H&M similar to the one above. It can be found here and ranges from sizes 2 to 20.
4. Fill in your eyebrows
You know how they say that your eyes are the window to your soul? Well if that’s true, then your eyebrows are the balancing beam for your curtains. So you gotta make sure you’re eyebrows are in order because if your curtains are crooked, ain’t nobody is gonna be paying attention to your windows. Or something like that.
A quick pencil, powder or dip brow will make a world of difference, even if that’s the only makeup you wear for the whole day.
5. Top it off with a scarf

I have to admit, for the longest time scarves perplexed me. My mother wears them in an effortless way but I never felt like I was doing it quite right. Luckily, infinity scarves gained popularity because it requires no skill on my part. Anyway, the truth of the matter is that scarves are a great accessory to spruce up a casual outfit. If you are inexperienced, I recommend starting with an infinity scarf but if you are a little more proficient in tying scarves, run wild and be free.
6. Pile your hair into a bun
Not having a great hair day? Welcome to the club. Your membership card should arrive in 5 to 7 business days. When that happens, I put my hair up in a bun. Bonus points if you use a sock bun because the bigger he bun, the better. Don't have a sock bun? Check out this tutorial over at Beautylish.
7. Master the half tuck

I’m not sure when this became fashionable but boy did I jump on that band wagon when it passed by. Add a couple of extra style points to your look by barely tucking in the front part of your shirt only.
8. All. Black. Everything.
We all know that black clothing is the crutch of boss ass bitches everywhere. But it's a universal truth: nothing looks cooler than head-to-toe black. Bonus: the only thing you have to worry about is your blacks matching.
9. Go with a bold lip
I truly believe that every woman can rock a red lip. It’s all a matter of finding the right red for you. But adding a pinch of style to your look can be done with any kind of bold lip: pink, red, orange, brown, gray, purple, etc. Whatever hue you end up choosing for the day, it will elevate your look.
10. Dark wash jeans are your friend
There is a time and a place for raw denim, mid-wash or black jeans but your go-to for lazy days should always be a dark wash denim. Don’t ask me why but it always makes everything look a little special.
